you can see that on hi-def doppler radar. a big heatup is on the way. we'll talk about that in a minute. >> "friday light" this morning. overnight roadwork. much more traffic and weather together every 10 minutes coming up. >> thank you. some developing news now out of north san jose. the search is on for the suspect behind the city's 37th homicide of the year. officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of rogers avenue around 2:00 this morning. the victim died at the scene. investigators have not identified the suspect or a motive. the identity of the man killed is being withheld. the so-called san jose serial arsonist continues his dumpster burning path for a second day in a row. once again a trash bin in the same area near delna manor lane were set on fire. flames were put out before crews arrived. firefighters say these small

fires could easily get out of control. this is the tenth fire in the past three weeks. a two-alarm house fire in the hills above downtown mill valley start an hour and a half ago at 175 bolsa avenue. one person in the house when the fire started was able to get out safely. no word on the cause. lower tax rates, increase growth. >> now you're jack kennedy. >> joe biden and paul ryan locking horns in the only vice- presidential debate of 2010 -- 2012, rather. the vice president's revival of lloyd bentsen's 1988 barb, here's the results of a poll on who came out on top with randall pinkston. >> i will be very specific. >> reporter: vice president joe biden wasted no time challenging congressman paul ryan's take on foreign policy. >> with all due respect, that's a bunch mularkey. >> and why is that so? >> not a single thing he said

right now 50s across the board. by the afternoon still a cool day today highs mainly just in the 60s. but over the weekend maybe some 70s and 80s. maybe next week some 90s. we'll talk more about that in a moment. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> it may be slick in spots coming into san francisco this morning the pavement was wet from last night an overnight rain so watch out for that. otherwise, the bay bridge is moving fine "friday light" traffic so far on the upper deck. you may find some rolling closures and delays. they are street sweeping in the area but looks good now, no delay approaching the pay gates. elsewhere, to our maps and more roadwork this time in the southbound lanes of 101 on the span of the golden gate bridge. maybe we noticed it might be a little wet on the pavement there heading into san francisco towards doyle drive, as well. more overnight roadwork on the san mateo and dumbarton bridge. sensors are picking up slowing on both 92 and 84. both scheduled to wrap up in the next 25 minutes but again

that's westbound 84 and westbound 92 various lanes blocked. so caltrans crews still out there very hard at work and back outside one of our live "timesaver traffic" cameras everything looks great up the nimitz, no delay on the freeways and everything is cruising towards downtown. coming up a check of mass transit and in the meantime, back to you in the studio. >> thank you. some tears of you. >> and some tears of sadness last night. the giants pulled off a miracle comeback taking three in a row from the reds in cincinnati. they move on to the nlcs. then it was the as turn at home last night against the tigers. sellout crowd filled the coliseum last night but the star in this game was on the mound really for the tigers. the reigning cy young award winner justin verlander pitched a complete game shutout. he was huge. as only four hits, lost to the tigers 6-0 in their finale but what a season it was. >> i think we surprised a lot

found in the area. a bomb squad dead nature small bombs after evacuating a few blocks around georgia street. one person was taken into custody after the devices were found in his home. the suspect's own roommates called vallejo police. neighbors say they were always suspicious. >> you know, the guy, you know, i smell chemicals at night i would tell the police officers, he would just be making all kinds of noise at all times of night. you know? it would be so loud. shake my house. >> the suspect is facing felony charges for making and detonating bombs. the suspect in a vallejo double murder is due in a solano county courtroom this afternoon. 65-year-old martin hohinager is set to be arraigned in connection with the shooting death of two neighbors. it stemmed from an -- from an argument over politics. contra costa supervisors will vote on a contract for

prosecutors. it was revised to ease the impact of paycuts. the contract includes a new retirement tier for future employees. federal judges have given the state's corrections department until january to explain how they will reduce the state's inmate population. last year the supreme court ruled 33,000 inmates needed to be removed from the california prison system. the deadline to get those numbers down is next june. bay area solar company solyndra may not get the reorganization it proposed. attorneys with the irs and the department of energy asked a bankruptcy judge to reject the plan. the irs says the plan's main purpose is tax avoidance. there is a hearing now on this issue set for next week. quite the spectacle today in los angeles as the space shuttle endeavour is moved through city streets to its retirement home. endeavour is being transferred from los angeles international airport to the california science center at exposition

park. the 170,000-pound spacecraft will be on display there for museum visitors eventually . this is a live picture of from the streets of l.a. there you can see the shuttle is moving at 2 miles per hour. four computer controlled transporters will negotiate the shuttle along the 12-mile route where in some cases it will be inches away from buildings. >> in some places the wing tips will extend beyond the boundaries of the streets over the sidewalks. >> reporter: what do you do then? >> just move very carefully and slowly. we tell people to open their windows as the wing comes by. entirely cloud-free. we'll have low clouds and fog in the morning. usually in the 80s in the interior valleys, 60s this afternoon. a lot of 60s in the east bay valleys, 70 in places like brentwood and antioch. inside the bay, 62 san francisco, 65 petaluma. next couple of days, we'll slowly warm up. more sunshine by sunday. weak system drops in monday that will hold the temperatures down but then looks like we heat up maybe some mid-90s toward the middle of next week. >> just when you thought summer was over it makes a comeback. innings that, lawrence. let's go towards the nimitz. 880 and as you can see, everything is moving fine near the oakland coliseum. all the way towards downtown. yeah, free and clear. so overall on this friday morning, it is not too bad. elsewhere, towards the east bay, eastbound and westbound 580 still looks okay through the altamont pass. this is usually one of the our first spots to slow down but obviously, not a single yellow

sensor on there showing speeds below 40 miles per hour. so that's a good sign that this commute is off to a nice start all the way towards the dublin interchange and tassajara. elsewhere, highway 4 is our next spot to slow down. so far it looks okay. i'm not seeing major roadwork projects across the stretch either. often times they shut down the full freeway at loveridge. not the case this morning. elsewhere, here's a live look at the golden gate bridge. traffic is flowing okay across the span. you will find some roadwork in lanes on southbound 101 on the approach towards doyle drive. and the toll plaza and also some roadwork in lanes going against the commute northbound 101 from the waldo tunnel towards sir francis drake. for the most part south bay free and clear this morning on the 101, the guadalupe parkway and 280 through downtown san jose. coming up we'll give you a check of mass transit. we have traffic and weather together every 10 minutes. back to you guys. >> thank you. a week of nobel prize winner announcements wrapped up this morning with the surprise winner of the peace prize.

it is almost 4:49. we are going to get earnings reports today from a couple of major american banks. the reports will come from wells fargo, jpmorgan chase, who is expected to face tough questions about its $6 billion trading loss when it announces its 3rd quarter earnings. "new york times" says federal investigators are using taped phone conversations now to build a criminal case against the bank. tully's coffee plans to close nine stores sunday after the parent company went bankrupt. the company has more than $7.5 million in debt. tully's will keep 48 other stores open and is now offering jobs at other locations to the workers of those stores that will be shutting down. a new year often means new prices for the u.s. postal service. so starting in january, a first class forever stamp will cost you 46 cents. that's up a penny. usps officials also plan to raise the rates for priority mail services. the postal regulatory commission will review the prices before they become

effective on january 27. some people in berkeley mourning the loss of redwood trees cut to make room for a library there. five trees originally cut down for the newest branch library but now a 6th will be cut. it was supposed to be saved but the library says the contractors damaged it when they took the other trees out so it has to go, as well. >> they weren't going to cut it down but now it's like they all are cut. >> devastated by it. it was very sad to watch all the treats be cut down one after the other on a sunny afternoon. >> some young supporters there. the contractor is expected to pay for the damage and a new mature tree will be planted in place of the one that had to come down. some sick animals at the oakland zoo are getting a little extra tlc. >> zoo official opened a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. it will help treat over 600
